Research of one island complete

This island has given me the opportunity to observe the vibe, the view and the pace I want for my bar

Streets usually filled with cruise ship passengers

I also learned what I don’t want and had no idea until I visited. They have absolutely no fresh water source. All drinking water is shipped in, or they have “basements” that collect rain water, and then their homes are fitted with a filtration system to make the water “usable” not drinkable. The electricity is expensive it can be more than your rent.

Commercial? Actress? Who me?

I belong to a yacht crew Facebook group. A gal I met in Ft Lauderdale is organizing a video shoot on 3 yachts in St Thomas. she invited me to be a “charter guest” for the shoot.

She said the owner of these yachts has great connections and could possibly help direct me in my endeavor.

I’m finding that the cost of living on an island vs the potential income I can earn working in A bar while I learn, is quite out of balance. Like I can rent a $1700 a month dump and earn $10 an hour. You do the math. Ha ha. Covid is preventing free travel to several islands I want to “learn on” so I may stick to yachting for another season. Oh darn right? Best life ever!

My new friend Liz and I had a wonderful day meeting the locals

What gracious people

If you aren’t looking for 5 star accommodations but a clean friendly place to hang out. I found the place. Island View Guest house. Owners Ron and Beth. My first day here, I was having issues getting a taxi. Ron asked where I needed to go. He took me there. When I returned he said. Wife and I are getting bbq would you like me to bring you something back?

My last night at anchor on GiGi

A previous guest joined us for an outing to lunch and a night at anchor. Love her, she is young and very strong willed. When I sat down to relax with a glass of wine, she came up stairs to chat. She and my boss had a long talk while they ate lunch. She has known him for 15 years and he shared his version of why I’m leaving, she was able to see the truth.

When one door closes 5 more open

The dock guys all know I’m leaving and they all come back each day with new information. One guy gave me a magazine that lists all the marinas and names of the dock guys that work there. He also told me I MUST stay at the Island View guest house. Ironically, that is where I’m booked. He confirmed the honor bar and said it’s the same in the room. There’s a chalk board that you write down what you consume and they add it to your bill

My Last Week With Gigi

I just spent 6 hours washing Gigi for the last time. I’m sure alotta people would do a half/assed job knowing it really doesn’t matter. But I want the next person to come aboard, and say wow! This boat is pristine.

I printed out my maintenance log so they could see everything that needs to be done and when. I have a technician list of everyone we used and in which city we used them. I have a spare parts list with part numbers and brand for re-ordering. Should make it easy for the next person.
