The job advertisement for this boat should have read janitor and laundry personnel, who can aid in docking boat occasionally. Because we run crew 24/7 sometimes I’m on duty when we dock and undock and sometimes I’m sleeping. So in the 11 days I’ve been onboard, I’ve handled lines twice. Some of the servers and other deckhands have said, “they should have been honest about the role, we were applying to”. I said, “if they were, you’d never take the job”
With 187 passengers on board and how many ever crew…eating 3 meals a day creates a lot of trash. All trash is stored in in a walk in freezer at the bottom of the boat. When in port, guess who carries these super heavy bags of trash up a flight of stairs then out of the boat, then usually up a hill to a dumpster? Deck crew! It is absolutely grueling and since we’ve been down so many deckhands, It’s extra grueling. Guess who does laundry? Deckhands! Sometimes I enjoy it though cause it’s the only time I get off my throbbing feet.
On a happier note, we are getting 2 more deckhands today and one of the galley dudes says he’ll save surplus guest dinners for me to eat rather than crew food! And the captain let me steer the boat last night while he ate dinner. Quite different than GIGI but navigates the same.

My BFF had a major migraine so I buried her in laundry so the cameras couldn’t see she was sitting down closing her eyes. She is the sweetest person. I hope that when I get a yacht job, I can take her with me!
