My good friend and Captain told me this at dinner a few weeks ago. I’m believing it now. I have applied to SOOOO many deckhand jobs and absolutely nothing. I thought my age might be a factor, but last week, I actually had an interviewer say “looking at your work history dates, may I ask how old you are?”
I laughed and told her, that I am aware I’m in a 20 year old industry, but I can tell you, I will work any 20 year old under the table. She believed me, and submitted my resume to the captain. Haven’t heard from them since.

So, just to have a job to create some cash flow, I’ve applied to be a deckhand on this river cruise boat. This will keep my hours updated for my captains license and I’ll save a ton of money for my beach bar over the 28 week contract. I’ll finish in April and return to miami to captain in the Caribbean!!
Background check has begun. I will take the Jeep up to a friends in Tennessee and visit her for a few days. Then they will fly me to their training center, then place me on a boat! This should all happen mid September (as long as I pass my drug test and background check) 😂
I have no doubt you can outwork a 20 year old.
Your definitely a go getter 😄😄 Wow that’s awesome. Love the cruise boat (huge)

I just really don’t want to have to work for corporate. I like family owned better. But good things don’t come without sacrifice.
