Very Productive Day

Just goes to show, you can’t give up, based on initial information received. I still wanted to do some research while I’m here, even though it sounds like getting a job is likely impossible. I googled beach bars near me. Looked at pictures of the vibe I want to learn in, and went.

Yes..I love the beach, the staff was so happy to have a guest, as they depend on cruise-ships and tourism. I enjoyed the beach and water for a while, then decided it was time to go to work.

Went up to the bar and made friends with the bartender. He was joking with the owner at the time. Then the owner sits across the bar next to a lady. I observe the interaction between the staff. It seems very happy and comfortable.

After chatting with Shanirre the bartender for a while, he decides I need to meet the woman speaking with the boss. He says “she is our HR”. She sits down with me for a good 20 minutes. She is pleasant but frank. She says to me “so you think you can just show up on vacation and decide you want to work at my bar and I should hire you?” I obviously answered the question pleasingly as she chatted longer and invited me back tomorrow.

She left to get her grandson. Further investigation reveals it will likely only cost me 1500 to get my Jeep here, during “normal times” I have the potential to earn weekly salary plus 300-500 a night in tips. Rent in a clean safe place should be less than 1000.

Three things resonated with me while “I” interviewed them.

#1 The shortest term employee is 5 years, everyone else 10+.

#2 The bartender has worked in high volume bars where they run you to the ground. He said. “Yes I was making a ton of money but had no time for me, for family, what’s really important. This place allows that. I actually have a life and they actually care.”

#3 it’s a total hole in the wall tiki bar, yet the food was impeccable. I ordered a Mediterranean salad, that was just as good if not better than some high end restaurants Ive ordered from in sag harbor.

End result..with Covid, they cannot hire me now, but would like to continue the interview tomorrow and stay In touch, as they expect the first cruise ships to return in May.

I will head back to Florida for a job next week and await a call from the Bahamas tiki bikini bar! There I can learn the ropes, While I continue research on which island I actually want to live. Maybe Exumas!

My taxi cab driver Gino is so excited. He said stacy, I’ll pick you up at 10:45 tomorrow for your 11am interview!
