It’s the little things

I’ve been living on a boat for so long, a boat I can’t cook on, bathe in, do laundry in. I’m so happy to be in a home. I went to the grocery store this morning. Taxi’s are expensive here. It appears, no matter where you want to go it’s $45.

Which is still cheaper than renting a scooter, Jeep or ATV (they are street legal here). Talking to the taxi cab driver…they have provided most of my information, which I verify later…he said Covid has left so many Bahamians out of work, that the government made a law that any employer who wishes to hire a US citizen must first prove there are no Bahamian residents qualified to fill the position. Furthermore, if after that you still want to hire U.S. you have to sponsor them in a sense and it’s very expensive.

So even though I can secure affordable housing here, I can’t earn a wage. Yachting is likely exempt from that, as the owners are not residents of the Bahamas.

That’s my security blanket if Covid prevents me from doing what I need to now. I’ll continue enjoying this island. Next stop will be St Maarten!
