The “one” thing I cannot seem to adapt to.

As I’ve said before…FLUIDITY…is a must for this industry. I was able to meet with some women in the industry last night, and it turns out the indecisiveness, last minute decisions, then change those decisions 3 times, is common in yachting

On Wednesday I shared with my boss, that I had found a group of girls in the industry and we would be meeting tomorrow for drinks. This would give him the opportunity to say great!…or sorry, we are taking the boat out. He says “I’m so happy for you to finally meet some people so you can get off that boat. You need this”

So, I plan my day. I message my hair guy. I’ve been on his cancellation list, as the last appointment I had, I had to cancel because my boss decided to go out on the water that day. The stars are aligning. He has an opening tomorrow at 1:30. Perfect. I’ll work until noon then head up there, get my hair done. Come back and get some sun, then get ready to meet the gals in Ft. Lauderdale.

About 11am my boss texts me, “I have a tennis game at noon then I’m heading to the boat. Please provision for anchoring, no guests and we’ll be out all night so we need to fill the water tanks full.” I responded what day? He says “today”. I feel my blood pressure rise. I thought to myself “are you f&*(%$^ kidding me?” I reminded him of my hair appointment and my evening outing. He said if you want you can stay on land and I’ll go myself. I just need you to help get me off the dock today and back on tomorrow. I’ll see you at the boat at 3.

Ok…so now I have to prepare the boat for departure. Run to town and get provisions, get to my appointment in Pompano Beach (which is north of Ft. Lauderdale) then get back here to send him off, arrange for a hotel near the Boat Yard Bar in Ft. Lauderdale, send him off at 3 then race back up north to the hotel and get ready for The Boatyard by 5pm!

I get everything done so that after my hair appointment there won’t be much to do. Just disconnect power and the lines and let him go. I get my hair done and am headed back to the boat. Stuck in traffic. I’m so stressed. By the time I get back to the boat its going to be 4. My boss texts me and says he ended up inviting a guest and she isn’t ready yet. By the time she gets ready, it will be 5, the sun sets at 6 and I’d rather just go out tomorrow and enjoy the day. So just be back on the boat tomorrow by 10:30 a.m.

I don’t even want to go out anymore. When he decided to take the boat out today…the one good thing was, he won’t be back tomorrow until late. He’ll want to enjoy the day at anchor. So I splurged on a super nice hotel, with a beautiful pool. Now, stuck in traffic, I need to turn around and head back to Ft. Lauderdale to the hotel, race to get ready and be in bed early enough to not be tired for work early in the morning.

On a happier note, I did make it out for a while and met some great women. All so willing to share stories and help each other succeed. I just don’t know what the point of having friends if you can’t make plans with them! HA HA

  1. So sorry your night turned out the way it did! Like you said almost impossible to plan anything with a boss who changes his mind every 5 minutes! Hope you got to enjoy your motel and the girls for a little while💕
