No schedule no plan

One hard thing about yachting on a privately owned yacht that the owner lives on is never knowing what you’re doing and when your doing it.

Today I finish my chores and he says he’d like to take the boat out alone and just float. So now I have to find something to do in town, and I have to be on standby for docking when he returns. I ask, when do you think you will be back all he can tell me is before 6. That could mean 2pm, 3pm…so I grab a beach chair, get a pedi then grab some yummy lunch. Hang out at the beach until I get too hot. My friend I met in deckhand school finally pulled in today. So excited to see her. She sends me photos of her boat so I walk around to find her. She’s actually anchored now and will be docking tomorrow. I walk back to the docks and sit on my beach chair waiting for my GiGi to return. I received such huge validation in my work ethic by so many people. The same people have the same slips so they become your neighbors. Everyone…everyone that walked by asked why I was sitting there. And each of them said “well Atleast you get a break, you work too hard”. One guy asked if I take care of the engines, and bilges, and strainers, as well as the interior. I said yes. He just shook his head. Another lady said the same thing, you work too long of hours…is he mean? Our direct neighbor who is one of my bosses best friends said “you know Stacy, you can take a break and get back to it”. Another captain and A guy down the docks were having drinks with us one night and they both said to my boss…she works too hard, she’s putting all of us to shame!”

It makes me feel good to know my hard work is noticed and appreciated. My friend from school just text me and said she already quit. It was definitely not the situation she signed up for. I feel lucky in that I work for someone who will listen to my concerns and we can adjust and adapt to make it work well.

  1. I know he takes good care of you but you take care of that boat for him! I just don’t think he appreciates you enough! I would like to see him find one person that would work as hard as you do. That wouldn’t happen. To bad Heather can’t be with you today.

    1. He really does appreciate me. He thanks me all of the time, compliments my work. And he’s so proud when I do something for the first time. Like when we moored the first time. I had to direct him as I meant over the bow to grab a floating pole that is attached to ropes that are attached to an anchor. Once I was able to grab it he clapped and yelled and told everyone watching “look at her go! It’s her first time!”
As any employer/employee situation one feels the should do more and the other feels they do too much. I think davar heard from neighbors and guests how hard I work. So 90% of the time I feel appreciated and 10% of the time I feel like he thinks I need to do more.
