In our industry, we all have an expiry date

My good friend and Captain told me this at dinner a few weeks ago. I’m believing it now. I have applied to SOOOO many deckhand jobs and absolutely nothing. I thought my age might be a factor, but last week, I actually had an interviewer say “looking at your work history dates, may I ask how old you are?”

Still submitting resumes like crazy. My second call back was from a stew hiring someone to do exterior. She and I chatted on the phone sharing job expectations and my experience. She loved me, felt connected and wanted to hire me on the spot. But out of formality, I needed to interview with the captain.

First interview

I’ve submitted about 20 resumes with no response. As I’ve said before, I’m too old for the age bracket of job I’m applying for. Deckhands are in their 20’s. Good news is…I went through my Captains hours log, and I have more than enough hours to get my captains license.

Sitting here sending resumes in for work. Completed the updating of my maritime medical ENG1 exam this morning. Now is not the best time to be looking for yacht work in Florida, as most yachts leave during summer. But there are a few out there.

Staying in touch with. GF. she says YB is taking my leaving out on her. she is such a kind person. I hope she finds her strength somewhere somehow.

I get my hair done tomorrow, so I look presentable for any interviews. Then happy hour with one of my friends at my old marina. Thursday night is lady’s night at the Boatyard in Ft. Lauderdale, all crew go there. It will be a good networking night!

YB started turning into his old self. Fighting with GF all of the time, then get crabby and short with me. I told him not to talk to me that way. If he wants to talk to his girls that’s one thing, but I demand respect. He said “oh, people argue, just tell me to f&$) Off if I’m being an asshole.” But when drinking starts at 9am and doesn’t stop. Being an asshole is a daily ritual so I stood up to him we argued (via text. he’s off the boat in the city until tomorrow). He said I won’t debate with you, I’ll just buy you a plane ticket back to miami”

I replied perfect! A new adventures awaits!!

I land in miami tomorrow night at 11pm. Get my Jeep. And stay at a friends house while I look for my next job, or start Captain school, or fly to an island. Who knows!!!

What a couple of days

We left Sag harbor this morning for Montauk. YB & GF ate lunch while I managed boat. He delivered my lunch (lobster roll)

Now we are at anchor for the night. Tomorrow headed to a yacht club I suggested when I was here by car the other day. This marina has a fun pool with a bar and restaurant right at the end of your dock.

When one person has a problem…we all have a problem

Our neighbors have several issues on their boat. Last night a captain friend of mine whose on a 110ft boat, was having a glass of wine with me, on my boat. We observe our neighbors struggling with their A/C. Ongoing issue for over a week.

Kids are coming!

The last time I was on GiGi my two oldest daughters (January bdays) got to come stay a week in miami. My youngest missed out, cause her bday is in July and we are in full travel season, then I abruptly left, so no opportunity for her to come later.

Had a balanced fun day today

Started my chores, YB said that it was going to a beautiful day and he wanted the 3 of us to take a day trip to Greenport NY. what a cute little town. We took a slow cruise over there and docked the boat. they were ready, but I was still sweaty from chores. I showered and met them at their first stop for a drink

Leopards don’t change their spots

For all of you who followed from the beginning, you know YB has some narcissistic ways. The dynamics on the boat have been completely different this time around, as I have shared. However, people are who they are and you learn to adapt or you move on.
