I love the ICW

The tech came, tested and diagnosed. Ordered parts that will be here in 3 days. We headed down the river about 2.5 hours to Grand Dunes Hotel and Marina in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Made reservations for dinner. Again, at a restaurant SO far away

Our restaurant for tonight

So here, we will be for the weekend. We’ll actually have time to see some sites and figure out why “Myrtle Beach” is something this California girl and her mother have heard of often, and don’t know why.

Limping along

I’ve learned a lot today from my boss and other captains who have had issues at sea. Changed the fuel filter myself. Didn’t help, wasn’t the issue. We figured out (with Capt Billy’s help) our transmission isn’t responding when we engage it. It’s amazing what captains do at sea to limp to the next port. They all have so much knowledge gained by experiences they’ve had.

First Stop on our way South

Bald Head Island

Up at 5am arrived at Bald Head about 1:30. It was a VERY salty ride. Sprayed her off. It’s warmer than Jarrett Bay, but still chilly. Boss said just dry the windows, don’t worry about drying fiberglass. I Can’t stand spots on the stainless steel either so I dried that. Our guests were fun. Boss took them to dinner while I finished. they were back very soon, with dinner. I guess the restaurant was not open for dine in. So we ate, drank and visited.

Guests left about 6:30 and I went to bed with pop corn, wine and a movie

Back in the water she goes

Finally get into a routine again. Washing her in the dirt was pointless. Can’t clean inside without water. No A/C or heat without water. I was able to get her pretty much in tip top shape for boss’s return. Although the weather is getting so darn cold that being outside without shoes is unbearable.

…and my last night

I realized, I have several people who read this from the East Coast and towns between here and there. So I’d like to share a few photos of my “home town”

City Hall
Popular hangout when my mom was in high school. Then I worked there 25 years later when I was in high school
This is my high school history teacher running for mayor. I voted for him
Town lake, we all walk around for exercise..I mean, they, not we! Ha ha

Day 5 at home

Like I said in the very first blog post. I grew up in a small town and most of us have lived here all of our lives. So when I said I would be at our friends bar for Monday night football, so many people came down to say hi and goodbye. Tell me they are proud that I’ve taken the leap and followed my dream.

Heartfelt thank you for taking the time for me and for the encouragement to continue. I feel so completely loved
