My boss tells me his wishes. I execute, by organizing the necessary techs to come aboard and complete each task. My boss gets in such a gosh darn hurry (for no reason) I understand rush situations, when there is a need. But when EVERYTHING is rush, NOTHING gets done right.

Woke up at 6:30am. Still windy enough to not have to dry the boat. Had my coffee, did a few chores then headed out to register the Jeep in Florida. I’ve been driving around on expired California tags.

The shop said all it needed was a new radiator, which I did not trust as that is not where the pre Florida leak was. But I went with it. Turns out..no more leaks. Turns out it wouldn’t go into gear because nothing had moved for 5 months, shifts just fine. Turns out the visible rust is treatable so she got her first super long warm bath tonight.

My first day here was washing and drying GiGi. Then I pick a project. Like my routine in Sag Harbor after my boss left.
Second day here was arranging our “technical difficulties repair” as well as generator repair AGAIN. I also needed to get the poor Jeep towed, get a rental car. Drive to Ft Lauderdale and get my mail. My bosses neighbor highly recommended a repair shop called Larry’s. So I had it towed there. Their tech determined the clutch is fine, they were able to put it in gear and move it. Maybe rolling it onto the tow truck bed loosened things up? He also said, the radiator is leaking, NOT the freeze plug area. I mention to him, that the leak I observed at the end of my road trip, was from the block somewhere, mid engine, not near the radiator. Furthermore, I had the radiator, Thermostat and hoses all changed 2 years ago. Mechanics in Ft Lauderdale said it was freeze plug. But I trusted this tech and said replace the radiator again. The fact they could get it in gear is a good sign. Then all I need to do is a new soft top, and rust treatment, whatever that means.
Heard from captain Harvey and Gila who live about 20 minutes away from my marina. We’ll get together soon and they can show me around their hometown.
Looking forward to driving my Jeep in this tropical weather and seeing some sights
Reunited with my Jeep
I was SOOOO happy to see my Jeep, until I saw my Jeep. I wasn’t even thinking about the salt air here. Rust everywhere. The 2 year old soft top had over 6 months of puddled water and stretched and puddled more water to the point it is so stretched it’s worthless. I put 5 damp rid buckets inside, just in case moisture crept in. All buckets were full and I have mildew growing

And the crossroad is here. Shortly after my boss mentioned setting up the Bahama bar meeting, he realized what that means for him. I’m gone. If he does not facilitate that, there is a chance I get on a bigger yacht to do my research but there is also a chance that I enjoyed my adventure this summer and will want to enjoy 6 months of normal life on GiGi alone, and do the whole loop with him again in June. He’s banking on the chance that I might stay.

So…I’m obviously on this boat. Without any family…except for the family I’ve grown to know over the summer. My bosses daughters Stephanie, her husband Johnny, their child 11 month old Conrad. Alexa, her husband Matt and their kids Radley and the infamous GiGi.

I thought because we are chasing the sun, and it feels nothing like Thanksgiving, I wouldn’t feel homesick. But I do. Every year, I say it….and mean it, that my family is everything to me.

Capt Harvey and Gila have been about 6 days behind us. When we had transmission issues, that helped them catch up. My bosses family being here in Palm Beach we are here for so long, they were finally able to catch up
