Worked for about 7 hours, Boss is bored, so he helped 😳. I appreciate it But…he gets in a hurry. He wanted to stain the teak again. I need to inspect it first. It got so dirty when dry docked. It may need more than the washing I gave it yesterday.

When I applied for this job. It was deckhand, let me say that again. Deckhand. It slowly turned into deckhand/stew. Then deckhand/stew/engineer/captain/relationship counselor.

The tech came, tested and diagnosed. Ordered parts that will be here in 3 days. We headed down the river about 2.5 hours to Grand Dunes Hotel and Marina in Myrtle Beach, SC. I’ve learned a lot today from my boss and other captains who have had issues at sea. Changed the fuel filter myself. Didn’t help, wasn’t the issue. We figured out (with Capt Billy’s help) our transmission isn’t responding when we engage it. It’s amazing what captains do at sea to limp to the next port.Continue reading “Limping along”

Supposed to stay on Bald Head Island for 2 days. Boss changed his mind so we headed out this morning about 6am.

Up at 5am arrived at Bald Head about 1:30. It was a VERY salty ride. Sprayed her off. It’s warmer than Jarrett Bay, but still chilly. Boss said just dry the windows, don’t worry about drying fiberglass. I Can’t stand spots on the stainless steel either so I dried that. Our guests were fun. Finally get into a routine again. Washing her in the dirt was pointless. Can’t clean inside without water. No A/C or heat without water. I was able to get her pretty much in tip top shape for boss’s return. Although the weather is getting so darn cold that being outside without shoes is unbearable.

Flew into New Bern North Carolina. Stayed at the hotel I stayed at on my way out. Next morning, Arranging transportation to my car rental place, all Uber, Lyft and taxis are unavailable. It turns out this airport closes early for Halloween. So all flights in, are in the morning therefore cars are slim Pickens
