No job is perfect, there will always be something for someone to complain about. On this boat, the crew’s complaint is Owner’s Use. I came in at the tail end of their season, so I haven’t experienced how long it can feel. To me, working hard for 4 months and then having 8 months of light work, is nice. But I guess, it’s hard to find crew who are willing to live aboard on a boat that doesn’t get used for 8 months, and then having live aboard owners for 4. I guess the ideal situation is, owners that never live aboard, they only are on the boat when they are using it. Their use should be throughout the year for a few weeks at a time.
It turns out that the husband owner is tired of dealing with the constant repairs of a boat he rarely uses and that frankly he only bought for his wife. She LOVES the boat and doesn’t want to give it up. So he has relinquished all control to her. She can deal with it. She told our first mate, that there will be some upcoming changes that crew may not like.
This leads me to update you on my latest focus for my bar research. Looking into Costa Rica (Caribbean side). The most appealing thing is…2 people can retire there and live luxuriously on around $2,000 a month. I am only 1 person, and my social security will be almost double that. Little security blanket while I run my bar. If things fall apart on this boat, I may move to Costa Rica and work on a boat there, or a bar while I save and search for my spot.

I stole this image from the internet, so I have no idea, if this is what it really looks like.
